Foyers Primary School Review
Added at 08:49 on 19 March 2025
Foyers Primary School has been mothballed since July 2023. The status of mothballed schools should be kept under regular review. As part of that process, members of the CC are invited to an informal online meeting on 25th March at 6.30pm to discuss the long-term future of the school. Highland Council will be represented by Ian Jackson and by Fiona Shearer, Area Education Manager.
This will be an informal meeting, and it does not form part of any statutory consultation on any permanent closure of the school. Any such proposal would be subject to an extensive statutory consultation exercise, which the community council would be a statutory consultee. No closure proposal will be presented at the informal meeting, though the meeting will be used to inform Highland Council's decision on the next steps for the school.
Parents of pre-school and primary age children living in Foyers & Inverfarigaig will be invited to attend too. If you live in that area and have not yet received an invitation, please email the community council on email.sfcc@aol.com
It’s by no means certain they would have to have a full consultation; they wouldn’t need one if there was a decision to re-open Foyers Primary. Nor would one be necessary, at this stage, if they decided to continue the mothballing for another year. There would then be another review in the spring of 2026. It is up to parents and carers if they wanted the Council to consider re-opening the school. For this to happen, they would need to have a commitment from enough parents, and this would have to be in writing.
The current school transport takes children to Aldourie Primary School as this was the choice of the parents at the time when the school closed but if the school were to be permanently closed, there would need to be a decision on re-allocating the catchment. That would form part of the formal consultation document.
